Years of our lives

It is never too late to have a happy childhood

~Tom Robbins~

I could sugar coat it.

My childhood,

that is.

No~one wants to read of sadness and

abuse , do they?

Or do they?

Bookstores across the world have

shelves and shelves

of stories ( gut wrenching, horrible tales)

of miserable childhoods that seem to

appeal to people, they sell so fast.

I could write of endless days at the play park

and swings and

seaside holidays with buckets and spades.

Puppy dogs and gingham ribbons in my hair.

Fact,

those things didn't happen to me.

BUT...

what did happen ~

 is that I grew into

( hopefully ) a fairly well adjusted adult.

I married and have two beautiful sons.

I relived a marvellous childhood

through them and with them.

Lego.

Football.

Cartoons.

Bedtime stories and funfairs.

Endless hugs and kisses.

Sand in our toes and sandwiches on days at the beach.

Childhood.

Loved.

Relived.

  1. The truth can be tough. As I age and observe the people that pass through my life I do realize that the complete happy childhoods probably seldom exist. At least not that perfect type you see on TV and movies. There was sad and scary times for me. I think our dad had plenty of issues. Pain is a strange thing that can at times protect us from further injury. Hopefully, you have gotten the help you needed. All the best.

  2. I hear ya!! Best to remember that it isnt' the tragedies that made you stronger. It's the healing that made you who you are today. : )

  3. First...so nice to meet you and thank you for joining in!

Your post reminds me so much of another blog peep, TechnoBabe, who also overcame difficult obstacles in childhood and made sure adulthood did not continue down the same path. http://www.thetechnobabe.com/

You have a wonderful outlook on life that you are passing on to your children.

Thank you very much for this entry in the challenge!

  9. I love it! :) This is such a personal, honest post, and I think the Tom Robbins quote is spot on! I think it's amazing that you were able to relive the childhood you didn't have through raising your sons. I can only agree with, and reiterate, the above comments. You are a very beautiful lady, and I am proud to call you my dear friend :-)

A sound of birds singing

It's early.  And almost a year since I was here. I hear a sound of birds singing  outside my window and a dog barking down the street. ...
