Amishes

There's something about the Amish way of life

that lures me.

I've no idea why ,

because I'm rather hopeless at self denial.

A few years ago a friend gave me an Amish cookbook

and I've used it repeatedly since.

I saw the movie * Witness* and loved it.

But perhaps it's just because I think

I would look rather pretty in a hat like this.

However, Kelly McGillis I ain't. :)

I guess I'm hankering after a quieter lifestyle this weekend

because the house is frantically busy.

My eldest son is home and there are socks and boxers

and newspapers everywhere.

Eurrgh.

Cleaning the kitchen is a merry~go~round,

every time I do it, someone hops on

and messes it right up again.

Gah.

Anyone got tickets to Amishville?

This stressed out mom could do with one.



What the Amish live without ~::~

Electricity
Radio
TV
Newspapers ( a lot of them don't even know 9/11 happened)
Cameras ( they avoid having their pictures taken as they think it makes
a graven image of themselves)

What the Amish live with ~::~

A gentler way of life,
A strong sense of family and belonging
Teaching and passing down hobbies like quilting sewing and cooking
to their children.
