off I went to the course
( day two of role play hell..)
but the sun and the warm and my new peach
coloured skirt helped.
The church bell tolled plaintively on the hour.
The subject matter was painful and
very close to my heart
so sometimes I escaped the melancholy of it all
by dreaming of an orange grove,
under a summer moon.
There,
I had a little menagerie of glass animals,
which sat on a tiny table.
At night under the ink blue sky
the stars fell like pear drops.
When morning came I sent pretty
little postcards across the world
with mysterious post marks on them.
On looking up,
there he was.
The man with all the promises
of life and our love
in his sea green eyes.
My hair ( a loose strand fell out from under the ribbon)
and gently, he brushed it back.
I looked out to sea
from the orange grove,
so happy,
I almost cried.
The church bell rang.
It was time for home.
Those images, they
smudged themselves,
across my waiting heart.
Have you seen/read 'The Glass Menagerie' by Tennessee Williams? I studied it a few years ago, and really enjoyed it - would love to see it performed. Your reference to the 'menagerie of glass animals' reminded me of that. The play is about a girl who's almost crippled by her shyness. You really have a beautiful imagination :)

YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering had you read it Kess ( and secretly hoped you had!)
I loved it.
It was adapted for film and Joanna Woodward was the lead in that movie.
I was thinking about the book yesterday and believe it or that's why I wanted to incorporate into yesterdays blog.
The 1987 adaptation of the movie was my favourite,
and it's not available on DVD.
One of my favourite lines from the movie is when the little unicorn gets broken,
the girl says
* now it's just like all the other horses.*
Hope you are enjoying this perfect weather my sweetie.
